Now based in North Carolina, the Massachusetts-born quartet SEEPEOPLES formed in 2000 upon the breakup of the regionally popular Cosmic Dilemma. Cosmic D split with a string of dates left of their last tour, so singer/songwriter Will Bradford, drummer Tim Haney and bassist Dan Ingenthron formed SeepeopleS as a way to finish up those remaining shows. The "new" group was immediately invited to the CMJ conference in NYC and, two years later, they put out the debut, For the Good of the Nation, which featured sax contributions from one of Bradford's biggest influences, Dana Colley of Boston's legendary Morphine. Colley also participated in the recording of 2004's The Corn Syrup Conspiracy, which featured a new lineup, with Bradford remaining as mastermind. Haney and Ingenthron rejoined to tour the album and eventually record the just-released Apocalypse Cow Vol. 1 (Thursday's Southgate House show is being labeled a "CD release show"). The disc contains 17 tracks' worth of the band's grand, emotive (and occasionally political) Pop Rock, best exhibited on the tight, jaunty Indie Pop title-track, which comes off like a mix of The Shins and Sunny Day Real Estate. But that's just a fraction of the band's sound -- "Once a Dream" is minimal, ambient balladry, while "Holding" is a dirtier slice of Garage-y melodics, with synth swooshes and a somewhat psychedelic varnish. 859-431-2201.
